The intention is to emanate the full spectrum of sound so it confuses the analytical mind because it can’t grasp onto all of the sound and frequencies and overtones being produced.
So the mind is trying to grasp onto what it is hearing, the part of the brain that is responsible for hearing, because it can no longer grasp what is happening it naturally gives up trying as a result brainwave frequency slows down and puts you into Theta brain wave or meditative state.
Sometimes this leads to sleeping or delta brain waves.
Sound is very powerful and can create an involuntary state of meditation which leads to the nervous system going into a parasympathetic state and homeostasis, which is your body's natural internal balance state. Like when you're feeling really calm, peaceful and good!
Sound bowl vibrations also stimulate the vagus nerve which account for about 75% of the parasympathetic nervous system. Because our bodies are 70-90% water the vibration of the bowls balances your body on a cellular level.
Singing & Humming can also stimulate the vagus nerve and help decrease stress, IBS or high blood pressure.
Spiritually they are traditionally called singing bowls because the sound is a close vibration to our soul.
